Who Dat News: Saints Take a Closer Look at RB Stewart
News: On Tuesday, Oregon RB Jonathan Stewart met with Saints running backs coach Aaron Kromer and other team officials, according to saintsinsider.com. The Saints may be in the market for a RB in the draft depending on what happens next week with Deuce McAllister's contract situation.
Who Dat Say: As we have said numerous times on this site (see http://saintsgomarching.blogspot.com/2008/03/replacing-our-heart-and-soul.html), if the Saints decide not to pick up Deuce's roster bonus and/or Deuce refuses to take a pay cut, the team should strongly consider drafting a big RB to fill his role in the offense. It's hard to believe that the Saints would target a RB in the 1st round as defense is obviously the more pressing need. But if Stewart slips in to the 2nd amidst concerns over off-season surgery on his foot, the Saints would have to think long and hard about taking him. Stewart, who is 5'10" and weighs 235 pounds, ran a blistering 4.38 forty at the NFL combine. Our weekly poll "Carrying the Load" presents this exact scenario, and so far the vote is dead even.
