Who Dat News: Shockey to Saints not Dead Yet?
News: According to WWE announcer Jim Ross's blog, talks of a possible trade involving TE Jeremy Shockey and the Saints have re-emerged. An unidentified source told Ross at Wrestlemania 24 last Sunday that the New York Giants are going to trade TE Jeremy Shockey to New Orleans prior to the NFL draft on April 26. Ross says in his blog, "Shockey is an Oklahoma kid from Ada who told me last week he was looking forward to playing for the Saints."
Who Dat Say: Sounds promising, but we'll believe it when we see it. Like they say, where there's smoke, there's fire. Sometimes. We can't be certain to what degree that fire is burning though. Obviously, Shockey would be a huge upgrade to the Saints' offense. Given Payton's history with Shockey (Payton was the offensive coordinator for the Giants when Shockey was drafted in 2002), the interest is well suited. Until anything official breaks, we will be left to wonder if Brees to Shockey in New Orleans could be as productive as Brees to Gates in San Diego.

Bush, Brees, Colston, Shockey...Money!
who would he trade him for? roman has been mentioned, but i don't think we can afford to trade him right now....our secondary is already suspect enough.
According to Jim Ross's (WWE) blog....
Please, since when is a WWE annoucer's blog worth mentioning as sports news...
This guy does not even know the left side of his face from the right..
Noladome - if you were a well-rounded sports fan, you would know that Jim Ross is a very well respected mind and credible source in the world of sports. He's only a WWE ring announcer because he enjoys the leisure. Outside of that, he owns his own BBQ sauce company and a few restaurants in the Norman, Oklahoma area.
Obviously, you need to brush up on your sports knowledge. He's a huge Oklahoma Sooners fan and knows just as much about football as he does pro wrestling. Perhaps you should read the link before you make any judgements.
Noladome, if you haven't figured it out, the purpose of this site is to give analysis on breaking news. Any site can give you the news, but these guys break it down for you...something other sites don't do.
Other than that, great work WhoDatSay.com. Great articles and great analysis...the best Saints site I've seen.
"Please, since when is a WWE annoucer's blog worth mentioning as sports news..."
When it expands upon a story already reported by MSM
If this is further analysis….
What new information does it divulge...?
Oh so a trade may happen...
Ok...
Thanks for the info; a credible source may have listed some other pertinent information like the details of the trade etc...
That being said I do enjoy the sight, but also what is the point of analysis if one cannot analyze the analyzer…?
We welcome all comments NolaDome, and enjoy Saints discussion in all forms. The implication here is that the trade might be back on for a second rounder, depsite what the Giants said earlier.
I think it's clear that unless we have something crazy up our sleeves, like trading down to acquire more picks, taking Kenny Philips or a corner in the first and a DT in the second round, we're not going to give up Roman Harper. From what I hear, Payton is a big Harper fan anyway, so I doubt we're actively looking to move him. Barring something unforeseen like that, it looks like a second rounder.
Harper is a beast, and shares his booze with friends at the Red Eye. And don't give noladome such a hard time, unless "anonymous" is Tom Benson I'd let him have his opinions.
Where is it published that Shockey told "Good Ole JR" said that he was looking forward to coming to the Saints? I love JR and I think he is one of the best sports announcers in any sport, but no one who is well respected would divulge information that way. Thats more irresponsible reporting than ESPN.
Trading a 2nd rounder for Shockey would certainly put a dent in www.whodatsay.com's "Five Steps to a Black and Gold Supa Bowl" because then we couldn't draft Deuce's replacement.
I think their step 4 said a good TE would also do the trick in rd 2, so getting Shockey for a second rounder would be in line with the plan. I think we may have to give up more than a second rounder to get him though, like maybe another later pick
Shockey has great upside including:
Top 5 TE in the league.
Has an aggressive attitude that this Offense and Team could use.
But is the 2nd pick to much to give up?
Maybe...It depends on what we do in the draft.
If we plan to trade up and go get Ellis in the first then we could only have 1 pick in the first 4 rounds because the trade up to get Ellis would cost us our 3rd. This means that we would not pick until round 5. (We would lose round 4 due to the best move in FA, "Area 51" Vilma)
It’s a tough call to give up a 2nd round pick for a TE, especially when it is such a deep class for that position. Perhaps we should look into the 3rd round for Brad Cottam, a Tennessee TE with impressive size and good speed. (6'8'' 270 4.6)
I would enjoy the presence of Shockey on the field, but I think we still need to address the Defensive side of the ball with our 2nd rounder.
Shockey's got talent, no doubt. But this guy could be a locker room cancer. The Giants were much better after shockey got hurt. Not to mention a 2nd round pick is simply to much to give up for an injury prone, all though talented TE. Randy Moss went for a fourth round pick as a comparison
Two things:
1. I think that Forte would fit perfectly with the Saints and be an outstanding complement to Bush, esp after this being the final season we'll see the Deuce Master.
2. Now, that Freddy T's invitation has long expired, do you think the Deuce will get his #22 back? Maybe, that will help him remember his days of yore at Ole Piss.
